A blessed new year to all of you! As we rip off the last page of our 2014 calendar and hang a fresh, crisp 2015 one, we hear many people encourage us to “ring in the new year.” Others will ask us to make New Year’s resolutions to shed a few more pounds and run a few more miles. We live in a restless world. The evidence is all around us. We hurry from one project and activity to another. We may wake up at six or seven in the morning only to be thinking about what we have to do at work or what we have to do to get the kids ready for school. A vision statement answers the question, “Based on why we exist (mission statement) and who we are (core values), where do we see ourselves in the next one to three years?” Our adopted vision statement is this: “To be a strong leader of our community in caring for its needs with the Good News of Jesus Christ.” Let’s break down our vision statement and reflect on each part.
